Christopher Curbelo, RN, BSN, EMT-P

Founder of Salus Paramedic Care. Registered Nurse, Firefighter/Paramedic, and a Lieutenant with Tamarac Fire Rescue — and the person behind the preventive care guides published on this site.

Background

Two careers, one conclusion

Chris has served as a Firefighter/Paramedic since 2018 and is a Lieutenant with Tamarac Fire Rescue and its EMS Team. In parallel he has worked as a nurse since 2017, with experience in the emergency department and in pre- and post-surgical care. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Nova Southeastern University.

That combination is unusual, and it is the reason Salus exists. Emergency medicine teaches you to read a person quickly and act under pressure. Nursing teaches you what happens in the weeks either side of that emergency. Seeing both makes a pattern impossible to ignore: a large share of the calls firefighters run were not sudden at all. The warning signs were in the house, in the medicine cabinet, or in a change somebody noticed but did not know how to interpret.

His clinical skill has been tested competitively as well as professionally — Chris is a three-time Florida ALS Competition Champion and took first place at the NAVRA EMS World Competition.

The work itself

What Salus does — and what it deliberately does not

Salus provides scheduled, in-home preventive visits across Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. Every visit is performed by a licensed Firefighter/Paramedic who checks vital signs, reviews medications, screens for fall risk, and assesses home and fire safety, then reports back in plain language.

It is not an ambulance service, not a home health agency, and not a substitute for a primary care physician. Anything clinical that needs attention is referred to the person's own doctor. In an emergency, the answer is always 911 — Salus exists to make that call less likely, not to replace it.
