In-home preventive paramedic care in Hialeah, Florida

Hialeah is where Salus is based. Our Firefighter/Paramedics make scheduled preventive visits to homes across the city and the surrounding Miami-Dade communities — checking health, medications, and home safety so problems get found while they are still small.

What is preventive paramedic care?

Preventive paramedic care is a scheduled, non-emergency home visit performed by a licensed paramedic. Instead of responding after something goes wrong, the paramedic checks vital signs, reviews medications, screens for fall and home-safety hazards, and reports what they find to the family and, when needed, the person's physician.

It is not an ambulance service, and it is not home health. Nobody is sent because of a 911 call, and no physician's order is required. Families in Hialeah typically book Salus for the same reason: someone they love is managing more health and more medication than they used to, and nobody has genuinely looked at the whole picture — the person, the prescriptions, and the house — in one sitting.

Local knowledge matters

What we look at in Hialeah homes

Every city ages differently. These are the three things that come up most often in the homes we visit here.

Bathrooms and single-step thresholds

Much of Hialeah is single-story houses and low-rise buildings, so families often assume stairs are the only fall risk worth worrying about. In practice the bathroom does most of the damage: a tub wall that has to be climbed over, no grab bar within reach, and a single raised threshold between rooms. We measure those against the person's actual balance and reach, not a generic checklist.

Smoke alarms and older wiring

A working smoke alarm is the cheapest protection in the house and the one most often missing, expired, or disconnected because it chirped at night. In older housing we also look at what is plugged into what — space heaters, window units, and power strips feeding power strips are a pattern our firefighters recognise immediately.

Prescriptions from more than one doctor

When a cardiologist, a primary care physician, and a specialist all prescribe independently, nobody necessarily sees the full list — and duplicates, doubled-up sedatives, and long-expired bottles accumulate quietly in the cabinet. We lay everything out on the table, including over-the-counter products and supplements, and flag what deserves a pharmacist's or doctor's attention.

What actually happens

A Hialeah home visit, step by step

  • We arrive at a time you choseIn uniform, with identification, at a scheduled time — never unannounced. Family can be present in person or join by phone.
  • Vital signs and a head-to-toe checkBlood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, temperature and respiratory rate, plus a conversation about how the person actually feels day to day.
  • Medications, all of them, in one placePrescriptions, over-the-counter medicines and supplements reviewed together for duplicates, gaps, and anything that no longer belongs in the cabinet.
  • A walk through the homeBalance and mobility, then the rooms themselves — lighting, thresholds, bathroom, smoke alarms and escape routes, judged against this person's real abilities.
  • Findings, in plain languageWhat we checked, what looked good, what concerned us, and what should go to a physician. The family gets the same summary the client does.

Important

When to call 911 instead

Salus is not an emergency service. If someone is having chest pain, difficulty breathing, sudden weakness or drooping on one side, trouble speaking, uncontrolled bleeding, or has fallen and may be seriously injured — call 911 immediately. Do not wait for a scheduled visit, and do not call us first.

What we do is the work that happens between emergencies: the checks, the questions and the small corrections that make a 911 call less likely in the first place. If we encounter a genuine emergency during a visit, we activate 911 ourselves and stay with the person until help arrives.

Hialeah questions

What local families ask us

Yes — our business address is 419 W 49th St, Suite 219, Hialeah, FL 33012. It is an office rather than a clinic: there is no waiting room and no appointments are seen there. Every visit happens in the client's own home.

No referral is needed. Anyone can book directly — for themselves or for a parent, with that person's consent. We are an additional layer of support alongside your loved one's existing doctors, not a replacement for them.

No. Home health agencies generally provide physician-ordered skilled nursing or therapy after an illness, injury or hospital stay, and often involve insurance authorisation. Salus provides scheduled preventive visits that anyone can book without an order, aimed at finding problems before they require treatment. Our guide to home care, home health and preventive paramedic care compares the three in detail.

Yes. We cover all of Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, which includes the communities bordering Hialeah — Hialeah Gardens, Miami Lakes, Miami Springs, Medley and Opa-locka among them. If you are unsure whether we reach your street, call (786) 330-8016 and ask.

This is one of the most common reasons families call us. After every visit you receive a direct update — what was checked, what we found, and anything that should go to her doctor. You can also join the findings portion of the visit by phone.
